===Origin/meaning===
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The Untener family is of Hungarian origin. This is indicated by the Crown of Saint-Stephen of Hungary. The eagle is the symbol of Saint-John, the patron saint of the seminary where bishop Untener studied theology and later served as a rector. The wavy bars stand for water that played an important role in bishops Unteners life.
It is also from the Saint-John´s Gospel that the bishop took his motto.
The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop by instruction of the Holy See, of March 1969, confirmed in March 2001.
