In Passau the first and fourth quarters show the arms of the city of [[Passau]]. The harp in the second quarter of both arms symbolises the passion of the bishop for (church) music. | |||

The third quarter of the arms in Passau shows a pine tree for the Steinwald (stone-forest) region in the Oberpfalz where the bishop was born and raised. The small figure is the statue of St. Mary of Altötting, a famous place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Passau. | |||
