The arms were never granted, but have been used since the 18<sup>th</sup> century.

The arms were first used in the Paderborn Roll of Arms from the 18<sup>th</sup> century. The meaning of the different fields is not clear. The local castle and estate was a possession of the Raben von Pappenheim family in the 15<sup>th</sup> century and their descendants, the Raben von Calenberg family. The raven is a canting element for the family and was, together with the star, also part of the family arms. The meaning of the other elements is not known.
