===Origin/meaning===
The oldest seal of the city dates from the late 13<sup>th</sup> century and already shows the canting water mill wheel (Mühle=mill). All later seals have shown the wheel. The original seal showed 17 blades on the wheel, but already in the middle of the 14<sup>th</sup> century the number was reduced to 8. The arms were officially granted in 1507 by [[Leonhard von Keutschach]], Archbishop of Salzburg, as the city was part of the State of Salzburg until 1803. After the transfer to Bayern, the arms were sometimes shown as a blue wheel in silver, the colours of Bayern, instead of the red and silver of Salzburg. Officially the colours never changed.
