The arms were officially granted on December 12, 1980.

The name may have been derived from Walddorf (forest-village) and this is symbolised by the oak tree. The small shield refers to coal mining ad agriculture as main activities in the municipality. The colours are those of the [[Samtgemeinde Nord-Elm]].
