St. Michael is protector of the municipality. The image is a copy of that one, kept in the local parish church. The waves are symbolizing coast and sea, grapes and ears of grain are symbolizing the cultures of vine and grain, finally the fruits of cactus are symbolizing the production of a red colour, used e.g. for lipsticks and as a food colour (E124), which is made by grinding the cochenille-lice.
