In 1950, due to the christian-catholic character of the arms, it was changed by the communist authorities into the form shown below. The mitre was removed, and the arms with half-lion, half-eagle, symbolizing the province of Kujawy, were added. The original form of the arms has been re-established in 1990, but the previous ones were still shown in 1994.

On the three differnet versions of the arms with the provincial arms, the small shield differs between all three; the 1963 version has the arms in one colour and the roof of the gate in blue, the 1994 versio and the 1980s version differ in the colours of the nails and tongue of the lion.
