The divided shield is the arms of the former Marquisate of Saluzzo. The first coat of arms of the town can be seen on a capital in St John’s cloister (1466) and shows a Roman letter S. At the end of the 18th century the S was changed into two golden dolphins. In the 19th century a bitten apple was placed between the two dolphins.
