SANKT PETER IM SULMTAL
State : Steiermark
District : Deutschlandsberg
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 19, 1955.
St. Peter im Sulmtal is a municipality in southern Styria. The keys are the attribute of St. Peter (the keys of heaven, as Jesus himself said). The rooster may have two meanings: It may be another attribute of St. Peter, the cock who had only crowed twice before Peter had denied to know Jesus before He was crucified. Or it may be a reference to the well-known Sulmtaler chicken-breed. Sulmtaler chicken are a very sturdy and ancient race and resist all sorts of illnesses very well.
