The arms were officially granted on November 11, 1985.

The arms show the local church, which originated from the 13th century, but was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1660.
The chief shows a flint axe, which was found in the municipality. It refers to the long inhabitation of the area.  


The oak leaves refer to the Hüttener Berge natural reserve. The also refer to the four areas that were cobined to for the municipality in 1928; the municipality of Bünsdorf, the Estates of Schirnau and Steinrade and the village of Wentorf.
The shield is divided into two parts, resembling the historical situation in which the village was divided since 1353 between the Reinfeld monastery and the local lords.<br>
The wheatear and the axe refer to the agricultural character of the municipality as well as the local woodwork tradition.


The base shows the Wittensee lake, an important recreational area.
The wavy bar represents the Beek river.
