The arms show the statue of St. Mary from the cathedral of 's Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, where the bishop was born. The heart is the symbol for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to which he belonged. The stars are the Southern Cross, as he became bishop in New Guinea.
