The St. Andrews cross is used as a symbol for Murray McDougal, a Scottish pioneer and one of the first European settlers in the area. The baobab tree is a common tree, whereas the sugarcane and wheat are the local crops. The citrus tree represents the Citrus Estate, the hippopotamus head was the symbol of the Hippo Valley Estates.
