Arms (crest) of Diocese of Cairns

Official blazon

Gules, on a fess argent between three martlets argent, a Maltese cross azure.

Origin/meaning

The arms are those of William Wellington Cairns after whom the city is named and onto which a white horizontal band, or fess, charged with a blue Maltese cross has been added, in recognition of the association of the arms with the State of Queensland. The blue Maltese cross is the crest of the State of Queensland.
