Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 15, 1964.

In 1266 the Teutonic Order settled in the village with a Commandery. They remained the rulers of the village for many centuries. Hence the cross of the Order in the upper part of the arms.

The lower half shows a crown, symbol for St. Margareth, patron saint of the local church. The blue and silver are the colours of the County Arnsberg, to which the area historically belonged.

Literature: Belke et al., 1986
