ARCHDIOCESE OF UPPSALA
Denomination : Lutheran

Origin/meaning
The Coat of Arms is to be seen already in the 1290ies in a Seal of Archbishop Nils Alleson. The Cross is of cause the formost Christian Symbol, and in 1164 when the Archdiocese was created the first Archbishop Stefan did recieve from the Pope pieces from the True Cross. Efter the Reformation the Coat of Arms with the Cross had some competition with a Picture of St Erik. But in 1964 at the 800th Jubilee of the creation of the Archdiocese the Coat of Arms with the Cross was finaly reinstated.
