Official blazon
(de) In Silber ein roter bezinnter Torbau, mit blauem Kuppeldach, goldbeknauft und mit rotem Fähnchen, sowie mit geschlossenem blauen Tor; auf den Mauerzinnen einander zugewendet vorn ein aufgerichteter neunmal von Silber über Rot geteilter Löwe, mit den Vorderpranken die Kuppel berührend, hinten ein schreitender roter Elch.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 6, 1993, but probably were designed around 1687.
The arms show a typical baroque city wall, with a lion and a deer. The lion is derived from the arms of the Counts of Hessen-Homburg, as the counts had acquired the city in 1662. The deer is taken from the arms of the Swedish wife of count Friedrich II of Hessen-Homburg.
