The Colours Red and White is the Colours of the Flag of Malta. The Cross is a futher symbol of Malta. The letters MDCCC (1800) is explained by the Army Order 441 of 1889, which reads:<br>
"Her Majesty The Queen har been  graciously pleased to permit the Royal Malta Militia to bear the date "1800" as a distinction in Commemoration of the Services of the Malta Militia <br>
during the Siege of Valetta." Under the authority of Army Order 295 of 1924 this unique honour is born by The King's Own Malta Regiment.
