The Coat of Arms was originally approved for the 229th Aviation Battalion on 6 April 1966. It was amended to add a crest on 26 July 1978. It was amended to correct the colors of the wreath on 2 November 1983. The Coat of Arms was redesignated with symbolism revised for the 229th Aviation Regiment on 21 July 1989. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 229th Aviation Battalion on 6 April 1966. It was redesignated for the 229th Aviation Regiment with description revised on 21 July 1989.
