English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 1, 1973.
The arms show part of the Cathedral of Bamberg, as the town belonged to the State of Bamberg until 1803. The church already appears on the oldest known seal, dating from the late 14th century. Later seals and images all show a church, but most often like a more normal complete church, and not the part of the cathedral. The colours are known since 1603 and are the colours of the State of Bamberg.
