The arms were officially granted on June 10, 1969 and the new arms on December 3, 1984.
The current arms combine the lions of the old arms with the Tau-crosses of the old arms of Schellebelle.
The old arms are those of the De Cordes family, who acquired the village in 1614 and owned it until th eend of the 18th century.
The village never used the family arms on its seal, but used a seal with the local patron saint, St. Gertrudis of Nivelles.
