Azure, St John the Evangelist Argent, holding a chalice Or.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1954 to the Diocese of St. John.

The diocese of Mthatha was created in 1991 when the diocese of St. John was split. The new diocese retaine dthe arms of St. John, as well as the cathedral.
