The eagle is taken from the seal of the Kemexhe estate, to which Herstappe historically was associated, even though it was a separate estate. Both estates were a possession of the Chapter of St. John in Liège and ruled as a combined estate. The seal with the eagle is known from 1505 until 1631. | |||
