	The gold cross bottony surrounded by eight plates alludes to the arms of the old parish of Linhares, in Paredes de Coura municipality, Minho region, Portugal. This is where the colonists Dionísio Alves and Domingos da Cunha came from, who arrived at the captaincy of Rio Grande do Norte at the beginning of the 18th century and took the name of their native land by surname. Carnauba palm is not only abundant in the territory where the descendants of these colonists initially spread, but it is also present in the arms of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará states, Caraúbas municipality (where the armiger’s family was born) and the Federal University of Ceará (the armiger’s “alma mater”). The motto means “What merit do you have?” and was taken from Luke 6:32.
