Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
MÜNCHBERG (MÜB)
State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1973 Hof
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 30, 1959.
The eagle is taken from the arms of the Princes of Bayreuth. They were from the Hohenzollern dynasty, and had adopted the red eagle of Brandenburg when they became Dukes of Brandenburg in the 16th century. They ruled a large part of the district from 1381 until the 19th century.
The spindle in the lower part symbolises the importance of the textile industry in the district.
