Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1954, but are based on the oldest seal of the town, dating from 1451.
The arms show St. Stephan, the patron saint of the town, whereas the grapes indicate the importance of the viticulture in the area. The town had tried already in 1936 to renew the arms, but at the time saints in the arms were not acceptable politically. Hupp showed in the 1920s the saint as such, bu without the grapes as on the seal:
