The small shield represents Saint Michael, patron of the archdiocese of Sherbrooke and former patron of the diocese of Rouyn-Noranda. The fleur-de-lis symbolize Saint Joseph, patron saint of the diocese. from Rouyn-Noranda. The footwashing vessel demonstrates the spirit in which must be exercised the episcopal ministry and recalls Blessed Marie-Léonie-Paradis, secondary patroness of the Archdiocese of Sherbrooke.
