Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of Winkel shows a pine tree on a mountain flanked by two smaller mountains, and dates from the 17^th century. These arms also appear on the local fountain.

When the council adopted the arms these were based on the old seal, with now a pine tree on each of the mountains and on the mountain the source of the Ilm river.
