Origin/meaning
The first arms were granted on February 24, 1818 and changed on September 7, 1928.
The new arms are derived from the arms of the Kéthulle family, Lords of Volkegem from the early 16th century until 1693.
The old arms from 1818 showed a blue shield with in gold the composition of St. Martin, cutting his cloak for a beggar. St. Martin is the local patron saint.
