Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 7, 1994.

The seals and arms of the city use a fish since the middle of the 14th century. The fish probably indicated the importance of fisheries in the region. This lasted until the drainage of the Hevellander Luchs lakes in the middle of the 18th century. Until 1720 the hish was a pike, ever since a carp. The reason for the change is not known. One speculative reason is that the carp is a more friendly fish, which would reflect the character of the inhabitants...
