VILANOVA DE LA BARCA
Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida
Catalan | Escut caironat: de sinople, una barca envelada d'argent acompanyada a la punta d'una faixa ondada d'argent. Per timbre, una corona mural de poble. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
These arms have been officially granted on 28th May 1993.
Canting arms: they show traditionally a "barca" (Catalan for "boat") over the river Segre. In fact the new village (what means Vilanova in Catalan) developed around a ferry to pass the Segre, installed in 1212. Now it has been substituted by a bridge over the river.
