Origin/meaning
The arms were granted officially on March 26, 1976.
Beckum was an important town for the Bishops of Münster, who granted city rights in 1231. Unlike many other German towns, the arms were not based on the old seals. The seals , showed a city gate with church and the patron saint, St. Stephanus. The arms appeared around 1500 on the city hall and later also on coins and elsewhere. The arms may be canting, Bach=Bechheim=Beckum (Bach=brook). The colours of the arms are known since 1677.
