Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of Winkel shows a pine tree on a mountain flanked by two smaller mountains, and dates from the 17th century. These arms also appear on the local fountain.

When the council adopted the arms these were based on the old seal, with now a pine tree on each of the mountains and on the mountain the source of the Ilm river.
