Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 22, 1977.

The deer antler and the salt hooks are taken from the previous arms (see below). The balls are taken from the arms of Nienover, the number of three refers to the three former municipalities. The division line is taken from the wavy bar from the arms of Wahmbeck.


The old arms were granted in 1949, and show in the upper half a deer antler, derived from the arms of the former counts of Dassel, who until 1325 ruled the area. The lower half shows three salt-hooks, symbol for the historical salt mining in the municipality, which was first mentioned in the 9th century.
