Arms of Køge

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on a seal known from 1421, and show the old bridge over the Køge Å river under the protection of God (hand and cross) and King (crown).

The tower was added in the 15th century and is most likely a symbol for the local church. In the 13th century the city used a seal with only the hand.
