Arms (crest) of Paul Henry Walsh

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The coat of arms includes a red chevron, the basic configuration of the arms of an (unrelated) family Walsh, use to honor the heritage that comes to him from his parents, Paul and Dorothy Walsh. Below the chevron is a black cross fleuretty, which is often used in arms relating to the Dominicans. This signifies the years spent as a Dominican friar and priest, before becoming a priest of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Above the chevron are a shamrock, which honors both Bishop Walsh's Irish heritage and his years as pastor of St. Patrick Church in, Smithtown. Also above the chevron is a deep blue star, which represents Msgr. Walsh's devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Bishop Walsh's Episcopal motto is "Rejoice in Hope", taken from the writings of St. Paul.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop by instruction of the Holy See, of March 1969, confirmed in March 2001.
