Origin/meaning

The arms are most likely derived from the canting arms of the so-called Order of the Palm tree (Palmenorden). The Order, also named Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft, which had its seat in nearby Weimar, was a society of poets and scientist, with as aim to promote the purity of the German language. The Order was founded in Weimar in 1617 and the palm tree appears in the seal of Bad Berka in 1674. The ruin is the ruin of the castle of the Counts of Berka.
