Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 11, 1993.

The coat of arms is based closely on the Waterloo County emblem which was adopted in 1853. The design incorporates a lion and lamb - the biblical allegories of peace and prosperity - as well as seven trilliums which represent the seven area municipalities, and the Region's place in Ontario. Above the shield is a mural coronet, a traditional symbol of municipalities.
