Origin/meaning :
The above arms were granted in 1984.
The silver lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Everstein; the other lion is taken from the arms of the Counts of Homburg. Historically both families ruled parts of the new municipality.[[salzhemm.jpg alt="Wappen von Salzhemmendorf">Previously Salzhemmendorf used the above arms, based on the oldest known seal of the village, dating from the 15th century. The arms show the bust of the local patron saint, St. Margareth and her symbol, the dragon. The two small hooks are salthooks, as the town was known for many centuries for its salt mining. A salt cooking and purification facility was established in the village in 1588.
