County: Lębork

Arms of Lębork

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms may be canting (the German name is Lauenburg, Löwenburg = lion's castle). The oldest known seals, both dating from the 15th century, show a griffin (the symbol of Pommerania) between the towers of a castle. The same image can be seen on seals in the 16th century. It is likely that the griffin in later times was replaced by the lion, but this is not clear.
