Origin/meaning :

The arms were granted on Novermber 28, 1956 and slightly changed on July 30, 1974.

The fleur-de-lis is the symbol of St. Mary, patron saint of the city. The base shows the Desclvado mountain as a canting symbol.

The shield is flanked by coffee the main crop in the region.
The motto means 'The city is not the smaller'.
