Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1936. Twistringen was a town on the border between the State of Münster and the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, who both ruled the town for different periods of time.
This complicated history is symbolised by the horse of Niedersachsen, as a symbol for Braunschweig, and the bars of the arms of the State of Münster. The three wheels symbolise the industrialisation of the area in the 20th century.
