Origin/meaning

The arms show a canting tower (Thurm). The tower appeared in the 19th century seal of the city. Older seals show a rising female figure, holding hammer and cross. This composition can also be seen as city arms on a map from 1665.

Hupp showed the arms in the 1920s in a slightly different composition, see below.
