WILHELM SCHRAML

Born : June 26, 1935
Deceased : November 8, 2021

Auxiliary Bishop of Regensburg, 1986-2001; Titular Bishop of Munatiana
Bishop of Passau, 2001-2012

Auxiliary Bishop of Regensburg

Bishop of Passau

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The bishop used two different arms, one in Regensburg and one in Passau. In Regensburg the first quarter shows the arms of the diocese. In Passau the first and fourth quarters show the arms of the city of Passau. The harp in the second quarter of both arms symbolises the passion of the bishop for (church) music.

I have no information on the meaning of the lower half in Regensburg.

The third quarter of the arms in Passau shows a pine tree for the Steinwald (stone-forest) region in the Oberpfalz where the bishop was born and raised. The small figure is the statue of St. Mary of Altötting, a famous place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Passau.
