COUNTY MONTBÉLIARD (Comté de Montbéliard / Grafschaft Mömpelgard)

Arms of County Montbéliard
Official blazon
French blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The County of Mömpelgard was a secular territory on the middle reaches of the Doubs in what is now France, which originally belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and was ruled as Württemberg-Mömpelgard from 1397-1793 when it became part of France.

The arms are those of the Lords of Montfaucon, who ruled the area from 1163-1283. Since 1397 the bordure was no longer used to indicate the county.
