Official blazon

In Gold ein blauer Zinnenflachsparren begleitet oben von einem liegenden roten Schwert, unten von zwei gekreuzten roten Torfspaten.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 9, 2002.

The upper part of the arms shows a bronzen sword, found at the end of the 19th centuury in a burial mound in the village of Torsballig. There are three protected burial mounds in the village. The blue chevron symbolises the clear waters of the Hechtmoor, a marshy area in the municipality. It also indicates the water shed in the area, where the waters in the Western part flow towards the North Sea, whereas in the Eastern part the water flows towards the Baltic Sea.

The base shows two typical tools used for the peat mining in the area, which was the main source of income, until the mining was abandoned in 1954. The tools also symbolise the villagemuseum in Dammholm.

The golden colour symbolises the flowering rapeseed in spring and the golden wheat in summer and autumn.
