Origin/meaning
Bad Dürrheim was owned by the Order of St. John from the 13th to the 18th century. The seal of the village thus showed the cross of Malta. The seal from 1840 shows a kind of griffin (probably from Baden), holding a shield with the cross.
In the present arms the cross is shown on the left. The pale in the middle symbolises the drillholes used to pump the (healing) salty water from the ground. On the right the star and the waves symbolise the clean air as well as the healing water, which made the town a spa.
