Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1969 and officially granted on June 30, 1992.
Until 1969 the city used the eagle of Brandenburg on its seals and arms. In 1969 the arms were changed after a local contest with 25 proposals.
The two upper quarters symbolise the history of the city, the lower two the present times. The inescutcheon still shows the Brandenburg Eagle. The key represents the granting of city rights in 1337. The fish symbolises the formerly importance of fisheries for the city, where fish from the city was traded as far as to Italy.
The feather symbolises the duck- and poultry breeding in the area and the wrench refers to the local (small) industries.
