ARECIBO

Escudo de Arecibo

Origin/meaning

The lower part of the shield contains the arms of the founder of the town, governor Felipe de Beaumont y Navarra. The crown in the upper part is a symbol for Cacique Arasibo, the local Indian chief. The turtles are symbols for food and commerce.
