ALTENBURG (ABG)

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on October 16, 1991.

The upper half shows mining tools and a wheat ear, symbolising the importance of lignite mining and agriculture in the district. The base shows symbols used on German skat playing cards. These symbolise the famous playing card museum in Altenburg.
