State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Bergstrasse
Incorporated into : 1971 Wald-Michelbach

Wappen von Unter-Schönmattenwag

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the local council. The arms are those of the Von Hirschberg family and thus canting, as Hirsch means deer, which is symbolised by the antler. The letters SW are the initials of the council Schönmattenwag.
The seal dates from before 1631, as in that year the family became extinct and the village returned under direct rule of the Archbishops of Mainz.
